Traditional use in China

In traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), Hericium erinaceus is highly valued for its many health benefits. It is traditionally used to strengthen the stomach and improve digestive functions. The mushroom is believed to strengthen the "life energy" or Qi, which is said to lead to improved digestion and increased vitality. In addition, Hericium has been used in TCM to treat stomach ulcers and chronic gastritis symptoms.

Use in Japanese medicine

In Japan, Hericium erinaceus is known as Yamabushitake and has been valued for centuries in both cooking and medicine. The immune-boosting effect of Hericium is related to its positive effect on the intestinal mucosa, which contains many healthy bacteria and strengthens the immune system. As an antibacterial substance, Hericium is also used against Helicobacter Pylori, which can cause inflammation and an increased risk of stomach cancer.
