The matcha whisk is skillfully handcrafted: The piece of bamboo tube is cut with a sharp, special knife repeatedly to carefully carve out the bristles. Depending on the thickness of the bamboo, this creates a Chasen with different numbers of bristles. Here, size 80 is not exactly 80 bristles. The actual number of outer bristles is about 76 to 82. In a size 120 whisk, it is about 90 to 96 The bamboo itself is slightly thicker on a 120 whisk than on a 80 one.

The matcha whisk is delivered in plastic container. This packaging is only used for transport. It is not suitable for storage after use. Under no circumstances should the Chasen be stored in the closed container when it is damp.
The matcha whisk is an important utensil for preparing matcha. It is a commodity that, with good care, will last a long time, but not forever. To keep the Chasen in good condition, please note the following:
A dry chasen tends to break the bristles when the matcha is opened. Therefore, the bristles should be made pliable by carefully turning them in hot water before each use.
The chasen needs to dry after use. There is a special stand for this, called a chasentate. The bamboo broom can dry quickly there. It is even more important that it always stays in the right shape on such a stand, but at the same time the inner ribs can unfold properly.
Whipping the Matcha is relatively easy: the Matcha powder is whipped with very quick movements of the wrist, like writing an "M". A fine, jade green foam forms.
